Journal of Migraine Sufferers

Has anyone read the book victory over migraine by Rodolfo Low? It really worked for me. Most of it is scientific research, but the recomendations come down to just a few...no refined sugar, no alcohol, no salycitic acids, no caffeine, eat 5 times a day with high complex carbohydrates content. Again, eat no refined sugar. That's it. No pills, no drugs, no guru health fads.

I COMMENTED A FEW WEEKS AGO WHEN I WAS IN A WORLD OF HURT AND DESPARATE. I THOUGHT I WOULD BRING YOU ALL UP TO DATE NOW. I HAD CONTACTED A PAIN ADVOCATE IN CALIFORNIA BECAUSE MY NEUROLOGIST AND MY MD REFUSED TO TREAT MY PAIN ADEQUATELY. WELL, MY FAMILY DOCTOR WHOM I HAD FOR 10 YEARS PLUS FIRED ME!!! YES, HE SAID I COULD NO LONGER BE HIS PATIENT. I JUST HAVE TO SAY, BE CAREFUL IF YOU ARE GOING TO QUESTION ANY OF YOUR DOCTOR'S OPINIONS. YOU COULD NOT POSSIBLY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TAKING ABOUT. HE TOLD ME TO STAY OFF THE NET AS THERE WERE A BUNCH OF NUTS OUT THERE! I GUESS HE MEANS ALL OF US! WELL, I HAVE GOTTEN MORE FROM THIS SITE AND ALL OF YOU THAN I HAVE FROM HIM. ANYWAY, I GOT A REFERRAL FINALLY TO A PAIN SPECIALIST WHOM I SAW THIS LAST WEDNESDAY. I AM NOW SO VERY HAPPY I CAN ALMOST HOPE AGAIN. HE TOLD ME HE WAS GETTING ME ON A PAIN MANAGEMENT PROGRAM THAT IS BASED ON REALITY!!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! ANYWAY, I NOW CAN PLAN MY HOLIDAYS AND MY GRANDCHILD'S BIRTH WITHOUT ANXIETY OR FEAR. THANKS ALL OF YOU WHO E-MAILED ME BEFORE. YOUR CARING MEANS A LOT. STAY PAIN FREE THIS WEEKEND AND OVER THE THANKSGIVING DAY HOLIDAY. I TRULY HAVE MUCH TO BE GRATEFUL FOR.

Today at www.pain.com there are several good postings under "Today's Ask the Dr." you will see a question submitted by yet another chronic headache pain sufferer. In the history of her headahces, she details what most everyone of us here at Ronda's Jouranl have experienced more too often, the unwarranted reactions from docts. "from the 'OLD SCHOOL' of thought regarding treating migraines. There is also a question answered regarding NSAIDS (& the dr. gives a list of some of those.) I have web site addresses (if you are interested) that also give warnings to the danger of taking so much of the tylenol, advil, aspirin, etc. like medications & they present more of a danger to you liver & kidneys, etc. than to narcotics.Past articles there offer great info on this also. Part of the problem, as I have read here in the jouranl, alot of you are forced to take those NSAIDS,etc. in such large doses because your doct. refused to treat you pain w/what has been proven to be safe for us in narcotics. You can compound the problem though, if you take a high amt. of narcotics that have them in their ingredients for example, Vicodin, Fiorocet, Fioronal, etc. as what you will build up to toxic dangers are the tylenol, advil, aspirin-type components. At www.pain.com go to the "Dr. Files", "Pain Articles & Pain News" on previous articles & get yourself some education. Most, except for a couple, of the docts. there are up on the new research & new approach when it comes to safely prescribing narcotics. (Note: I said most, not all). Also. TODAY'S Pain Article"is titled "When Sinus Headache isn't Sinus Headache!". At, Mary's column there, "Straight from the Top", you will also read some very helpful info. on treating pain. She is a gifted writer who is a "chronic pain sufferer. Hope this helps someone. God Bless & pray God will empower you w/His wisdom! :)

Has anyone ever had this reaction to Midrin? I had the migraine from hell yesterday. It took 5 midrin to get it under reasonable control. Instead of making me sleepy, the midrin(and it's not the first time) made me absolutely hyper for awhile. It made it very hard to go to sleep. I'm usually in bed before ten. I was up at 10:15 playing on computer because of the dang midrin. I wondered if anyone else has this problem. It would be interesting to find out.

I have been suffering migraines since I was about 11. I am 28 now and have just suffered two this past week. My Dr. has finally prescibed Imitres and Midrin, but I have not taken any yet. Of course I couldn't get the pharmacy until after my migraine was already gone. I am hoping one of these two medications work. Although I am alittle bit weary because I have seen so many side affects on this website. Anyway it is nice to know so many other people are here to understand what it is like. I am lucky to have many people in my life who understand and are always there to help me.

Hello everyone! What a godsend to find this site. I've been trying to do my own research on headaches for a while now. I'm 42 and have been getting migraines since I was 20. I wish someone, somewhere would find a cure for this horrible disease. I'm home. I've had to use yet another sick day. I woke up this morning to the most horrible pounding in the back of my head. I knew I was in for it. By noon, I had a full blown migraine. My headaches start in the back of my head and travel over like a helmet settling in BOTH temples. So, they are just pounding away right now. I've been on every type of med. and once you think something works, all of a sudden, it's ineffective. I've been searching trying to find new things to try. I hate taking narcotics, especially since they don't work anyway. I can't stand the way they take over your life. My husband is wonderful, though. He takes such good care of me. He brings me cold cloths for my head and dims the lights when I can't and puts on soft, soothing music. A lot of times, he sits and reads to me. I feel like a child. Other times, he just rubs my head very vigorously, which seems to actually help. I feel bad, though, because I know there are other things he'd love to be doing, but he never, ever complains. I know he just has to dread the words, Honey, I think I'm getting a headache. I know I do. Well, I just wanted to add to everyone else's stories and let you know you're not alone. Hopefully, someone will find a cure for this. I'm going to sign off now. My head is splitting and my temples feel like they are going to blow right off. I can definitely use a head massage right now. Hope everyone has a pain free weekend. Lots of holiday shopping to do, right? Take care......Joanie

Has anyone experienced any types of "rebound" headaches from taking Imitrex? Every time I've taken it, my head hurts twice as bad the next morning. Does anyone have any suggestions besides Imitrex?
