Journal of Migraine Sufferers

Does anyone have experience with taking estrogen after menepause? I have a prescription and am afraid taking estrogen will increase my headaches. I'm to take 1 set of pills day 1-25 and a second set day 14-25. I never had a single headache during the times I was pregnant but the headaches returned within 3 days of delivery. If anyone has any knowledge or experience of taking estrogen like this I would appreciate hearing from you. Carole

I am not a migraine sufferer, but my son is, or shall I say was. He started getting them at age fourteen and continued for several years with an assortment of oral and IV medications. About 5 years ago when he was 21 and had just returned from another visit to the ER with no real relief and a lot of side effects, I told him what I had read about fever few and that it helped some people. Since that time he has taken 225-250 mg. daily of fever few (with the active ingredient parthenolyde) and has had one migraine, but it was minor compared to the ones he used to have every couple of weeks. He can now make plans and be assured that he can take part in them; he's been able to travel internationally with no effect from time zone changes. I have often told others of his success with fever few and many friends and acquaintances are taking it with varying degrees of success. Many are concerned about long-term effects, but my son is not bothered by that. He says,

Hi everyone. I just stumbled on this site through a friend's computer. I have my first appointment with a neurologist tomorrow. I have been suffering with horrible headaches for the last few months. My head just starts pounding uncontrollably. I cannot stand the throbbing. Then I feel nauseous and dizzy. Sometimes it won't let up for a couple of days. There's no history of migraines in my family and unfortunately, I think I'm going to be the first. I have a splitting headache right now, but I wanted to post after reading so many of your heart- breaking stories. I hope this is not what I'm in for, for the rest of my life. I was driving here to my friend's house when my head started to throb and I had no aspirin or anything. Luckily, I was near a drug store and stopped in to get some Excedrin Migraine. I hope it helps soon. How do you guys live with it? I'm so glad to have found this site, so I can go into the doctor a little more informed. Well, I guess that's it for now. I'm going to go lay down and try and stop this unbelieveable pounding in my head. Thanks for reading this far. Hope you all have a pain free day.

Hello Fellow Migranuers!

The Holdiay Season is once again upon us. I hope that you all have a lovely PAIN FREE season. This is the time of year we are supposed to give thanks for what we have been given & reflect on what we hope to achieve. One thing I am thankful for is This Page. Rhonda, you should be elevated to Sainthood for providing this area! Another thing that I am thankful for is the sense of family I have with all of you. I know that we all suffer (some silently)from this horrid condition, but I no longer feel alone. When I read your stories, my heart goes out to all of you. We have celebrated the birth of TWINS for one of our members of this online family & countless birthdays. Truly we are lucky people.

I know that there are days when NONE of us feel like getting out of bed and interacting with the work-a-day world, or even being with our beloved family & friends. Yet we turn to this page of hope & see life thru anothers eyes. We Verbally hug one another & offer the hand of support to those who have just found us. We freely exchange ideas and express concern for those who have yet to find just the right treatment or even a doctor willing to help. Yes, we have our bad days, every one of us, But we also have our good days (even if they are few & far between). We must not give up hope, for if we do, we will surly sink back into the dark world of our pain & dispair. This is my wish for this season & for many years to come... That we look to each other in support & continue to offer what knowledge we have learned. That we continue to share the stories of our lives and that one day, in the NOT SO DISTANT future, that we will ALL be able to live PAIN FREE.

May you all be blessed by the powers that be with Friendship, Love & laughter in this season of Thanksgiving. ~Dianna~

My Dr recently prescribed Magnesium (oxide) 750 mg a day as a Migraine preventative. He has another Migraine patient who is only in her teens & her headaches cause stroke symptoms, one sided paralysis, & this has helped her. I really can't pinpoint how or why this could help. I already take Calcium w/ magnesium, but have started the extra Magnesium. Like all preventatives, vitamins & herbs I know it takes a few weeks or even months before any changes, if at all. Has anyone else heard of this for Migraines? I'd be interested to know if you why adding this mineral could help Migraines? Please email me. Thanks! ~Lynda~ rkells@ttlc.net

Angela, I am very happy that you have found an answer to your migraines, however I would like to point out that if you were getting a buzz from your medication than that is why you got addicted. Your medicaton for pain was too powerful for the pain you were having. If you were just getting pain relief you wouldn't have had a buzz. You would have become dependent but not addicted. You were probably having rebounds also. I just wanted to let others know that there is a difference. I am so thrilled, however, that you have found relief w/o narcotics. Everything you said was right. You are not a bad person if you require narcotics to control you pain.It is so rare that there is such a happy ending to someone who has been in so much pain. And I know that I and the rest of our fellow migrainers are extremely happy for you also. And you are correct, it is always worth a try if you haven't tried it w/o narcotics. May your good fortune continue.
