Journal of Migraine Sufferers

First thanks to all for the great posts. I am 52 and have had migr. for over 16years. They have been hitting with a vengence these last 5years and I feel it may be approching menopause. I wonder if anyone has any experience with horm.replacement therapy in conjuntion with migrianes. I am due to see a new obgyn in Nov. and want to be as informed as possible. I average 3migr. attack /week with some lasting 2-3days. I have tried just about every prevenative and they either didn 't work or made me so sick I couldn't tolerate them. I have used Imitrex injections for over 4years and do get a 99%response rate.Sometimes I will use 50mg. pills. The degree it aborts the headache seems to depend on how soon I use it and how intense the migraine would have been. I am very thankful it works so well for me and I get no side effects nor rebound. It works just as well today as it did the first day I used it. Again thanks to all you posters and if anyone has any ideas I can use when I see the new Dr. feel free to email. Lesley

I am 25 years old and was diagnosed as a chronic migraine suffer about 2 years ago. Prior to being diagnosed I had suffered migraines for probably 8 years. My husband and I are trying to get pregnant to have a second child. During my first pregnancy I got headaches constantly with the occaisonal migraine. I am absolutely dreading the possibility of having migraines while pregnant and not being able to take anything other then Tylenol (like that will do anything). I am currently taking Imitrex at the onset of a migraine but it usually takes 2-3 to take it away. I am interested in information on drugs similar to Imitrex that may work in a single dosage. I also feel extremely nauseaus when I take Imitrex and I have never heard of that as a side effect before. I would love to hear from anybody who is pregnant or has recently had a baby who suffers from migraines and how you coped during your pregnant months.

Yesterday I wrote while I was in such pain. I was waiting to call my Dr's office back after taking Zomig again. Well when I called back to tell them that I was still in pain, the nurse, who seemed very nice told me that the Dr. will call in something for me. He wanted to give me Phenergan suppositories! Of course, I have had these before and they work great for nausea...when I asked her if he was going to give me something for the pain she became very, short and impatient with me and said that she'll ask the doctor. Well they ended up giving me Tylenol #3...10 tabs...1 every 4 hours as needed. I had to laugh...because he knows that I already have some Tylenol #3 and if I take 4 or 6 of them they may kill the pain. When we migraine patients have an attack like this we need something much stronger...like a strong shot. No wonder they think we abuse our meds...it seems like we have to in order to get relief. In regard to the few previous posts...I too, Carol am going to start taking Wellbutrin for depression and migraine. Also, Betty B., I had to leave a job in a beautiful retail store because of the constant spraying of perfumes and colognes. It was horrible because there were so many people who got sick from these smells but nobody would do anything aout it. And for the gal who is taking vicodin for preventing, there is nothing wrong with that. Hooray for your doc...he trusts you with this prescription. I hope that it works for you...anything to have a life pain free. A great day to all...Doris.

Hi everyone, its been awhile since I have last written in the journal but I have a question about a medication which has just been prescribed for me and I am hoping someone out there has some information about it. The drug is Ultram. Someone please tell me you're having good results with it. My doctor is so afraid of prescribing anything that might remotely have a dependence factor that it has become very hard to find something that will help my migraines. He even said I had to be careful taking this one but I was under the impression that Ultram was not addicting. Anyone know if it is or not. He was saying that possibly Zomig might be good for me but the HMO i"m with will not pay for it at this time. I am so sick of these HMO's telling me what I can take. I had to fight with them to let me take Imitrex. Imitrex works pretty well for me but I heard that Zomig works better. Anybody taking Zomig and having good results with it? Thanks for listening --hope to hear from you about this. Carol

I deperately need some help. I am a 33 yr. old female, who has chronic daiy migraines. I've been through the mill. I was seen at Jefferson in Philadelphia for 5 1/2 yrs., and got nowhere. I am currently being seen at a pain management clinic by an anesthesiologist. He said there is nothing more he can do for me. I've been to 4 neurologists, 2 Pain clinics, have had accupuncture a few times, done Bio-feedback, etc. I don't know where to go for further help. Neither does my doctor. I would appreciate any suggstions. I am currently on MS Cotin and MSIR, but my doctor sai that I can't stay on it. Thank you for any replies. Another point that I have to make, is that my resources are limited. My only source of income is Social Security, all while raising an 8 yr. old son on my own. Thanks again.
