HELP!!!! I need some feedback regarding Elavil. I wrote in the journal previously about my neuro putting me on Elavil 25 mg to help prevent my migraines. Well, now he has increased my dosage being I was tolerating Elavil very well, except for dry mouth and a craving for sweets (ooh, just what I need..a craving for food! ha!). He increased it to 50 mg at bedtime. I have taken the 50 mg now for the past 2 nights and all I want to do is sleep, sleep, sleep!! Unfortuntately, my busy schedule does not allow me to sleep 24 hours a day! How disappointing, huh? ha! Anyway, I was wondering if any of you that have been or currently are taking Elavil if this has happened to you? If so, how long will it be before this side effect passes? I know I had a tremendous feedback on my initial posting when I first began on Elavil and would love you to email me back again and help me figure out the answer(s) to this question that I have regarding Elavil. I do think this is the preventive drug for me; however, I am having a difficult time with it causing me to want to sleep all dang day! Also, I have noticed with the increase dosage that whenever I have to get up during the to go to the bathroom I feel as if I am going to faint or something. I become extremely weak for some reason. I have been sleeping better which is a really big blessing for me becuz prior to the Elavil I was battling insomnia. Sometimes I have to wake up to take a breathing treatment becuz of my asthma and I actually fall asleep during my treatment becuz I am sooooo tired! I am hoping this side effect will pass becuz other than the extreme drowsiness it is working very well for me. In fact, my husband who has Multiple Sclerosis takes 100 mg at bedtime and he has no problems with taking it. Anyway, please everyone who can help me in finding my answers to my question(s) email me, ok? Thanks! I really enjoy this journal and hope all of you are having a great day being pain free. We will survive this awful condition we have with the support we give eachother. Thank you to all of you for your support.

OPPS! Everyone, In my last entry, I posted an error in one of the web sites addresses. [Thanks you guys for catching it]. It's the one that contains most of the subjects I had mentioned. It should have been. http://www.ionet.net/~morpheus Also, there, you can find articles suggesting what questions you should be asking your dr.&/or pain clinic when it comes to their approach in treating your migraine pain, & a link of docts. near you. The reference for"Migraine Myths" that I mentioned earlier, is found @ www.webfirst.com/magnum/myth.htm Both it & www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/asap/psum.htm are where you can find beneficial articles For those of you interested in participating, or the progress, of currrent & proposed legislation with respect to /THE MOVE To CHANGE the existing laws reguarding-- "Effective Pain Management & Impediments To Appropriate Prescribing of Meds", You will also be introduced to Skip Baker, along with pertinet documents, resources,& links, that will eventually effect all intractable pain suffers. Hopefully, it will give us a VOICE when it comes to addressing our 'PAIN'. Dr. Hurwitz is one of those rare drs. that is also involved in helping us. You can see his compassion demonstrated when you read the feedback letters at www.c2corp.com/commentfeedback4a.html & when you discover what price he has paid in defending our right to be treated effectively & with the appropriate meds. Dr. Hurwitz is making himself available through such avenues as "Ask THE DOC." @ www. pain.com "TO GET HELP FAST" @ www,widomaker.com/~skipb/panic.html is a site where you can go quickly & not have to wade through alot of material. This might be helpful if because either you don't have the time or you are just in too much pain. Hope this has helped. God Bless

Hi all, I hope all is well with everyone :) Its been a few weeks since my last posting. I'm still on Elavil and real dizzy and lightheaded I have'nt fainted anymore, but came close a few times. I had a break through migraine last week, but it was'nt as bad as they usually are and lasted two days instead of four, so the meds are working. I guess I have to take the good with the bad huh. Only if there was a cure would'nt that just be wonderful. You all take care. Thanks for all the support. We truely are not alone. Lets keep the hope and prayers going :) Carol
