Journal of Migraine Sufferers

Is anyone on Verapamil SR? I have recently been put on this drug as a preventive and would love to find out more information on it. Please email me and let me know what you know about it. Thanks!

Hello all, I hope all of you are free from pain..It's been about a month and half since I had a migraine, But now I'm experiencing dizziness and light headed, when ever I get up from sitting, I thought it would get better but last Friday I fainted in from of my oldest child, thank god she was home because i was so weak I could barley keep my eyes open, I was down for a few hours. I went to the doctor everything seemed ok, but she said it was probley the meds I'm on ( I'm thinking oh great here we go again) I knew it was to good to be true.I am wondering if any of you all had the same experince with Elavil (50mg) I am praying it will pass and I can stay on this drug, it's been so wonderful not having massive pain 12 to 15 days out of the month.I know there is hope and maybe one day there will be a cure :) You all take care.....Carol

For 14 years I've had a chronic headache that is unilateral and dull in nature. It is located on my right frontal temporal region and it never radiates. I have no visual changes or nausea. The headache doesn't keep me up at night but sleep helps only slightly. Interestly, I also have some eustachian tube dysfxn on the same side. I initially seemed to have a patuluos eustachian tube but that cleared up, leaving me with clicking and popping sounds whenever I swallow as well as sounds similar to fluid movement. You can actually hear these sounds with a stethescope(as confirmed by physicians). No treatment has helped so far, including multiple medical regimens. Any suggestions? These headaches have severely affected my social life and mood and I am eager for relief.

Today I am celebrating. I have been migraine free for 5 days. For the last 5 days I have slept well and awakenend feeling great. I have energy and my emotions are stable. I can only assume that the new drug I started last week has caused this miracle. It is Bellergal. I had never heard of it before and the first couple of days not only did it not help but made me sicker. Then I guess it built up in my system and so far I am very pleased. I have tried all the drugs mentioned here and nothing has ever worked more than once or twice. I hope this helps someone else since I know how bad migraines can be. I feel like I can actually have a real life now for the first time since I was 4 years old. I know that my migraines are not cured but if I can have 5 days (dare I hope for more)in a row without one I will be happy. I hope you all have a pain free day! Marina

Hi guys I'm back again. I want to thank everyone for answering my question regarding excedrin migraine pills. They don't seem to work for anyone so I can cross this one off my list of things to try. I have something else I want to ask about and see if any of you have ever had this happen to you. On Sept. 3rd I slipped and fell at work and broke my wrist and oh did it hurt so the doctor at the emergency room gave me ViCodin for the pain. It helped and when I saw the orthopedic guy five days later he renewed it and a week later it was renewed it again. The last couple of days I've had wicked headaches and today a full blown migraine . I have a feeling I took too much of this stuff for my wrist and it raised havoc with my head. I know I should have known better. Trying to knock out pain for one problem created another one. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Right now my head is hurting badly --I took sme imitrex but its not working as well as it usually does. I'm not taking one more Vicodin. I really do believe taking too much of it over a short time is causing the head pain I have now. Thanks for listening. If anybody comes up with something that really works well for migraines let me know. Thanks again Carol

Today is the first day that I have had a MAJOR migraine. It started about an hour ago, but I was able to take hydrocodone. I have been VERY LUCKY that the last time I had one of these was 15 months ago. I lost the whole month of October in '93. I have had 4 MRIs, neurological tests to rule out that sort of damage, and no TUMORS, but a thinning blood vessel was discovered. But, it is fine as far as they all know (they being doctors). Please forgive me if I seem scattered. The thing that really worries me from time to time is the aura (I think I am having a stroke because my vision in my right eye goes away.) I know I shouldn't complain because mine are very far and few in between. So, I will thank you all for listening and wish you all pain free moments.

I just found this web site and am so thankful that I am not the only one. I miss a lot of work, and few people understand because they have not ever had a migraine. I am 25 years old, and I've had them for about 7 years. They usually occur once a month. However, I switched my birth control to a Progesterone Only Pill 3 months ago, and they now occur every other day. I have gone off the pill, but have yet to experience any relief. I went to a Neurologist 3 weeks ago and he started me on Duradrin and Amitriptylin. Imitrex never worked, and the only relief I got was to take a pain pill, Lortab. They would last anywhere from 24 hours to 72 hours. They occur on one side and I feel the pain all the way down my body on that side. The other side numb because the pain is so severe on the other. I usually throw up, my vision doesn't keep up with my eye movement, and my reflexes are very slow. I have to avoid sound and light till it begins to release and talking makes it much worse. I feel so much better since going on Duradrin. My migrianes are gone in 2 hours!!! I am hoping after my hormones level out that I will go back to one a month. Needless to say, I've gone off the Pill and am now practicing the Fertility Awareness Method. Please feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions or questions, and I will do the same for all of you! We are tortured by theses things, and I am praying someday someone will find a real cure.
