Journal of Migraine Sufferers

Hi, this is my first message to this board. I wanted to send some encouragement in the form of my own story. I have now spent the first 10 months of my life free from migraines and it's like being reborn. Prior to this, I'd suffered from "migraine seiges" (migraines that come for 10 - 14 days, with constant symptoms that require continuous medications and never seem to fully resolve) for 15 years, since I was a teenager. I have used all medications and been hospitalized with injections of Stadol, Demerol, Phenargan, etc. I'm sure many of you can relate! Anyway, after a 2-week seige last fall I decided I would take a different approach. First, I went on a "radical" nutritional approach that eliminates all foods I'm allergic to and also substitutes pure, whole foods for anything processed. I began acupuncture treatment and underwent 3 sessions a week initially. I sought out a chiropracter and he successfully used deep muscle and spinal therapy to prevent the tension headaches I'd felt were related to the migraines. I also began an exercise program. I am now 30 lbs. lighter, fit, and best of all, migraine-free. I would never have believed that this would work, but it did. I still suffer from asthma and allergies and I still keep my migraine medication around just in case. I see traditional doctors and they are thrilled with my success. I am convinced that my many health problems affected my immune system and that these problems combined to create the migraine process, like my body had turned on itself. Best of luck to all of you in your own search for relief. a.v.

A few days ago, I started seeing a spot in my vision that stayed there for a while, so I thought it must be an aura. I tried the feverfew nasal spray I got in the mail, and the aura never got any bigger, and soon went away. I never got a headache or any other symptoms. I'm still not even certain I was having a migraine, but if I was, then this nasal spray is a miracle worker. I guess next time I use it I'll have to wait to be certain I am having a migraine, so I'll know if it really works or not.

Hi. I first just want to say I am eternally grateful for this site. I dont know what I did before it. Thank you. Im sure most of you already know this but I have heard some people mention that they use excedrin migraine aispirin. If you read what the ingredients are they are the same as the regular excedrin. I dont know how they can legally do this but I just dont want anyone to waste their money thinking they are getting a useful over the counter product. Take care all.

I have just spent a painful hour reading this journal with a migraine... I feel like nobody belives me that I am in "that" much pain. I have been having severe headaches for about 6 months after my period (sorry guys). At first, I tried to "stick" them out and be "brave", then I started taking motrin 800 that my doctor gave me. Guess what happens when you use motrin for headaches frequently, Motrin is about as useful as drinking water after about 3 months... Then exedrin migraine worked for me, headaches are getting worse, exedrin bothers my stomach, back to the drawing board. Finally, today after 5 days of excruciating pain and my 2yr old asking me about my boo boo head, I called the doctor (on a sunday). He prescribed Amidrine. I took it, I am now a tired mother of 2 small children with a migraine. great help. Anyone want to tell me how to get rid of the darn thing? I cannot function like this and my kids are thinking I am nuts.
