Journal of Migraine Sufferers

hi my fellow sufferers, I just had another wonderful experience with a new neuro. Now, I've been divorced for ten years, my oldest has his own job and drives, my youngest starts high school next year, but this jerk had the nerve to tell me if I'd stayed married I'd be a lot better off now. Did it matter the guy had a very bad streak in him when he drank and was mad? Where do these clowns come from? And, he sees a dozen of me week(women w/headaches), 100 a month. And, they're not migraines, none are. People just like to say migraine, to have something to hide under. And, I really don't want to get rid of my migraines, I'm used to them. It's a habit. It's an excuse now when I don't want to do something. I'd like to take his license! I tried M.S.Contin from a family member who takes it for cancer. It worked. But, noone of course will prescribe it for me. It's addicting, it's a controlled substance. And, "don't get any help of the net, it's all hearsay and junk" he says. Sorry, but the best advice and support I've had in eighteen years comes from this journal. At least I have my friends here. I'll keep trying. By the way, Angel, you wrote me and the e-mail I'm using to write you back won't go through. Send me your e-mail again. Talk to you all soon. And hang in there! Cindy

I really enjoy reading the posting here on a daily basis. I check in with several other migraine support groups as well. I was wondering if anyone else reads the discussion group at "aboutwomen.com/board/messages/22.html". I went there once and it was a good site, but have not been able to get there again. Apparently there is a problem, and I was wondering if anyone out there has visited this site successfully. Let me know---it it seems to be another valuable resource for migraine sufferers.

I have suffered from classic migraine & cluster headaches for 20 years. For the last few years, my physician has found a very effective medication that aborts a cluster. If 4-5 days of countless medications (I have tried Imitrex, Migranol, Vicodin, Zomig, etc. at different times) prove ineffective, my physician prescribes a run of prednisone. Prednisone has NEVER failed to abort a cluster, usually within 24-48 hours of taking the first dose. A typical dose runs: 60 mg. day 1, 50 mg. day 2, 40 mg. day 3, 30 mg. day 4, 20 mg. day 5, 10 mg. day 6. If this dose proves ineffective, the next time you can try 60 mg. for 2 days, 50 mg. for 2 days, 40 mg. for 2 days, etc. I might take this medication once every other month to abort a particularly aggressive cluster. Without this treatment, I truly could not function as a contributing member of the human race. Best of luck to all...

I just found this website and hope it might be able to help. I'm 27 years old and I've had migraines since I was 2. Thankfully they were diagnosed by the time I was five. I have a form of pediatric migraine that causes dizziness rather than pain. It rarely lasts beyond puberty, but in my case it did, and I'm told that now I'll have them the rest of my life. I felel very fortunate that they are pretty well controlled with daily preventative medications and I usually get relief in about a day with Midrin, Imitrex, and Compazine. As I have dizziness rather than pain, pain killers do not work and in fact make me more dizzy. My main concern is pregnancy. My husband and I want to have children, but ideally I need to be off all medication for the conception and pregnancy. Needless to say this scares me. I've heard that migraines tend to improve with pregnancy. Some people tell me that Inderal is safe for use during preganacy (and that's one of my current preventative medicines). Does any one have any experience with this or advice or suggestion? Thanks E-mail swrtzy@aoll.com

I have suffered migraines for the last 19 years, they are never ending. I have had 3 mini strokes as a result of migraines, the pain shooting my blood pressure so high. I am presently taking prozac and antenol as preventative. I have tried every drug as preventative to no avail. When I wake with one is the worst. Stadol ns is my only help, but have to fight with DRs to receive this. Migranal has helped if I get one during the day. The er makes me feel like a junky. Mine are cause by a combination of stress and genetic. I have a twin that also get thems just as bad. I am presently considering a headache clinic, but, I have heard some horror stories about them. Any suggestions. Thanking you in advance for your support, Carolyn
