After reading so many of your stories, I know now that I am not totally crazy. It took 8 years, 10 sinus surgeries, various neurologists, ct scans, mri scans, and er visits to finally determine that I have migraines. I have taken nearly every narcotic known to man - lortab, lorcet, demerol w/phenergan, vicodin, darvon, darvocet, dilaudid, stadol nasal spray. I am so tolerant to these drugs that it takes a double or triple dose to make the headaches tolerable. I am now on a daily maintence plan of DHE45 4 times a day by mouth, Wellbutrin twice a day, Limbitrol at bedtime, Esgic Plus when needed. It is absolutely humilliating to go to the same pharmacy to fill these prescriptions. I have been on several antidepressants that are supposed to block the headaches. I feel like the pharmacists must wonder if I'm a nutcase or an addict. The only true relief I have found is a shot of demerol combined with DHE and Ibuprofen. Nothing I have ever taken will completely relieve the pain. I feel that my doctor is fantastic - he has visitors at his headache clinic from all over the country, but he is reluctant to prescribe anything stronger for me than Esgic Plus. I have never gotten a "high" from any narcotic medication I have taken. I am very cautious about my usage of narcotics, as I am very aware that they can be highly addictive. I am very fortunate to have a great support system from my family. I have an 8 year old son and am divorced and self-employed. Many days it takes every ounce of tenacity I have to get motivated and work. Chronic pain will make you neurotic and extremely grouchy. I am sure I'm not the only one that feels this way. I am on day 3 of a nonstop migraine that is so painful, I can't bend over. As I type, I am on demerol, phenergan, and have had two shots of DHE45 with little relief. I tried Imitrex and it was not very effective. My biggest question at this point is how to communicate to my physician that I need a strong narcotic; i.e., demerol or dilaudid, to deal with this pain. I believe he knows my pain is legitamite, but is hesitant to prescribe something like this due to the high potential for abuse.

I started having migraines when I was pregnant with my son, who is not 18 years old. I tried various medications some included high amounts of caffine. While pregnant with my second child 7 years ago the migraines came 2 or 3 times a day. It was unbearable. After the last medical doctor told me that I would just have to live with them, I got angry. I couldn't function at my job or home life. About 3 years ago I went to a holistic healer and she determined that I was allergic to caffine. I quit drinking and eating everything that had caffine in it, coffee, chocolate, tea, etc. I haven't had a migraine since. The woman saved my sanity. The medical doctors that I saw were treating me with the drug that was causing the migraines to begin with! Unfortunately, not all migraines are caused by allergies, but I do believe that what we eat has a lot to do with what happens to our bodies. There are so many additives to our food these days. If anyone is interested in contacting this person who helped me, her business is the Wellness Counseling Center in Santa Rosa California.

Hello fellow sufferers! I am a 27 year old male who has been suffering from migraines since I was about 6 or 7. My migraines run in the family. My Grandmother has them, her 3 children, myself, and many of my cousins. I pray to God that I have not passed them along to my 2 sons. I seem to have them worse than any other family member, thus far. I have been seeing a headache specialist for about 4 years and he has helped me a bit. I am currently taking Anaprox, Corgard 80mg, Fiorinal, and Imitrex. I am also currently on a new drug study. The drug is almost exactly the same as the Imitrex pills, but not as much tightening of the chest muscles. I have not really found much releif from either Imitrex or the study pills. The Fiorinal seems to work the best, but I am so afraid to get addicted. I have found many triggers so far. The biggest trigger for me is cane sugar. I have stayed away from that as much as possible for the last 4-5 years. That really sucks since I have a major sweet tooth. I am always interested in hearing from other sufferers. I would like to hear suggestions or ideas. Good luck and keep on fightin'.
